AN URBAN FARM THAT TEACHES CHILDREN HOW TO GROW THEIR OWN FOOD

by Rea Fernandes

My project idea is about teaching children how to grow their own food, while the architecture and design engages and educates sustainable practices. The process was to choose a suitable site that receives ample sunlight and has access to water, then incorporate sustainable features like rainwater harvesting, a moss facade and renewable energy sources, such as solar panels. The urban farm is to experience plant growth stages and the importance of sustainable food production. It encourages children how to grow their own food and show them where it comes from. Community involvement is what runs the urban farm. Volunteers can assist with maintenance tasks, while local chefs and food experts can provide cooking demonstrations and recipes that incorporate the farm's produce. This fosters a sense of community ownership and encourages sustainable food practices. By engaging children in hands-on learning experiences and involving the community, we inspire them to value and practice sustainable food production.
