CENTRAL SOMERS TOWN AFFORDABLE MARKET, EATERY & COMMUNITY OFFICES
by Cheung Fung Lam Nathan
The proposal is a mixed programme typology that houses, a dinning hall, operating in conjunction with a new market square and a set of offices which will serve as ‘Urban Harvest’s’ new London headquarters, alongside a few incubation spaces for upcoming local businesses. It aims to enhance the existing DSDHA masterplan intentions, enhancing the public urban grain within Somers Town, and encouraging exchange between communities and cultures through food. In specific, the proposal attempts to demonstrate a circular food cycle, whereby food surplus from the market and surrounding food retailers is collected and reprocessed into low-cost dishes resold affordably into the local community, addressing the issues of food insecurity and wastage.
