This is a proposal for the redevelopment of the Lesnes Estate which is currently being demolished. The estate was originally developed in the 1970s, and the buildings were built using precast concrete elements. Years of disrepair have left the existing housing stock unfit for comfortable living. 70% of the residents have supported the demolition and redevelopment of the estate. This proposal aims to create a mixed-use neighbourhood that is mostly car-free. Much like the original layout, no through traffic will be allowed. Parking spaces will be allocated only for blue badge holders. In addition to the good public transport coverage, there will be a shared car scheme for residents that will need at times to use a car. Emphasis is put on the establishing of a more legible layout, the provision of good public space, as well as, covering the needs for commercial and workspace in the area which is currently severely lacking.
