This proposal aims to develop the underutulised areas of the Thamesmead Moorings to improve permeability and legibility, as well as revitalise the community hall, shops and canalfront. The location and design of the new mixed-use blocks and demolition of existing structures are based upon an extensive contextual analysis carried out on the surrounding urban environment. A new park will be established, connecting the previously separated open spaces north of the new development. Existing community facilities like playgrounds, sports courts and community gardens will be extensively refurbished. All residential units have access to private outdoor space, communal courtyards and the public park. The new routes through the development will transform the site from a barrier between separate character areas to a transitional neighbourhood with the community hall, canal and shops at its heart.
