THE NETWORK PROJECT

by Hollie Champion

The Network Project is designed to aid the process of making mycelium, a product of mushroom roots, into sustainable packaging. It will also provide a living space that allows the user to detach from the working environment even while sharing the space with the business. The ground floor is designed to serve as a production room as well as a design office. The growing space uses natural lighting from strategically placed windows and low energy climate control vents, disguised as mushroom gills to be as environmentally friendly as possible. The space also has a recycled waste collection point made from mycelium, for people in the local area to donate any household waste, which will be used as growing materials for the mycelium. This building will help connect local businesses with a sustainable packaging provider and create networks in the area, for recycling and reusing materials, much like how mycelium roots network underground.
