Situated in Peckham, the idea of ‘Connections’ fuelled this project, influenced by two contemporary dancers, Isadora Duncan and Rudulf V. Laban. Transferring this into the structure of the buildings allowed features such as the bridge and the tunnel to be seen as significant, as it reflects some of the initial foundations of contemporary dance connecting the physical body and to one’s ‘spiritual’ body to become one. By engaging with students ages ranging from 13 to 18 in the community, the theatre works with the youth centre to create a safe space for all, while entertaining the public. The use of polycarbonate provides natural light to the design whilst retaining privacy for the performances, performers and users.
