‘The Healing Shell’ is a design project set in the Grade Listed II, Horner Building in Spitalfields Market, London. The client is a non-profit organization which operates exclusively with office workers to heal mild mental health conditions by singing. Pop music is the genre that leads the design. The space has been conceived to simultaneously allow different music activities within the two storeys building. The proposal follows a scheme based on several ‘shells’ with shapes and particular materials to serve a specific function. The leading attractions are two mimicked shells - outside and inside - dedicated to performance. However, a wide variety of personalities and activities can both inhabit a public area for individuals that are willing to lose the pressure and rigidity of their suits, as opposed to private zones for introverted members. The core of the design follows an open plan with a few private spaces. This allows individuals to freely move around the space.
