BEE-HUB

by Zaida Zekaj

My project for this semester was based in Stanley Road car park, Leyton in Waltham Forest. We were given the task to choose an ecology which we had to refer to throughout our proposal, I had chosen to work with the bee ecology. My ambition was to ‘educate the urban community on the importance of bees’ and show how architecture can play a fundamental role in promoting the growth of their existence. My proposal was planned around the sustainable principles in architecture, I tried to push myself to complete each criteria to the best of my ability through my proposal. The bee-hub works close with the context of the site as well as promoting green landscaping around the site and on my proposal. This was a way to promote more community gatherings, but more importantly, encourage the growth of pollinators, through the use of planting, landscaping and also learning how to bee keep through the ‘bee keeping training’ which is available on the site.
