SPITALFIELD GREENS

by Mara von Kymmel

In our hectic, modern lives, many of us focus so heavily on work and family commitments that we never seem to have time for pure fun. While play is crucial for a child’s development, it is also beneficial for people of all ages. The visions of my project are making the city greener and thereby informing citizens about gardening and our environment in general in a fun and playful way. This is done by sowing seeds, planting plants, watering them and watching them grow. Especially children learn a lot because they have to take responsibility for the plants, to take care of them and to appreciate and protect nature. The office is powered by Social Farms & Gardens, a charity supporting communities to farm, garden and grow together. Their vision is for people to reach their full potential and to improve the health and wellbeing of individuals and the environment through nature-based activities as a part of everyday life. Community gardens are not just nice places to visit where plants are grown and animals kept. Visitors of the outreach office are informed about the nearby public gardens which are supported by SocialFarms & Gardens.
