The neighbourhood of Scampia, located in northern Naples, is not only notorious for its high crime and unemployment rates, but social isolation is also prevalent due to the poor architecture and urban structure. Therefore to regenerate the future of this area into a more accomplished neighbourhood, I proposed the ‘Scampia Education Hub’ with 8 specialised educational facilities for the residents to study in, whilst also promoting a wide range of jobs within the hub. Within these 8 facilities, I focused on designing ‘Educare Scampia’, which is a teacher training centre for existing and aspiring teachers to be taught a new training method, with as little technology as possible, in order to educate the young and re-educate the old in an attempt to rectify and transform the existing socio-economical downfall into a brighter generation of well-educated professionals. Characteristics of the proposed teacher training centre include open-plan teaching spaces and greenery is introduced through the facility’s built-in indoor hydroponics lab with indoor garden teaching spaces to promote biophilia. Most importantly, bold and bright colours and shapes are introduced in the breakout rooms, classrooms and simulation rooms to evoke the psychology of happiness and play in the hope of making teaching fun for the children.
