CHASING OF THE CREATURE

by Joanne Wong

Some time ago, there was a sighting of a mythical creature. Through the glimpse of an encounter, this creature was seen to be bipedal and have ape-like features, yet strangely had resemblance to a human in its movements. This creature was referred to simply as The Creature. Scientists found dubious evidence claiming the origin of The Creature. During the early stages of their research, scientists believed that it emerged from an assemblage of ingredients due to the hybridity. This hypothesis was flawed. They realized the main reason for this hybridity was that the environmental degradation caused by human activity forced them to adapt to human habitation. To further study this creature, scientists decided to set up a research lab in Palermo, Sicily, where they believed they could gather the necessary ingredients: endangered wildlife and human activities. A gecko and Egyptian vulture focused lab was proposed where they could closely inspect the animals’ natural habitat and entice The Creature to appear so they could study it too.? The lab was designed to be sunken within the landscape and intertwined within cave structures; both features intended to bring the hierarchy of human users down under animal inhabitants for an animal-centric landscape. To make the artificial landscape deeply connected with the local environment, structures were constructed mainly with rammed earth, with soil taken directly onsite.
