SOUTHMERE LAKE VIEW, PIER AND DEMENTIA WALK

by Amelia Wilson

Through primary and secondary research on Abbey Wood East, it became clear that a significant portion of the area's population is over 60 years old, with a large majority having dementia or having mobility problems. This percentage is 20% higher than the UK average. Through my research, I was able to identify a particular smaller area in Abbey Wood that was home to a sizable number of seniors who had trouble navigating step-tree access. The area's design for dementia-triendly walks for residents has been centered on providing plenty of seats and step-free access for both residents and other dementia sufferers who might go on day trips here, bringing more visitors to the Southmere Lake View, which is currently under appreciated, under used and has a bleak facade.
