THE OXFORD STREET COMMUNE

by Phoebe Lawrie

This project explores the future potential for Oxford Street under a moneyless economy in a post-capitalist society. Conceptually, the project is based on the principle of minimal architectural intervention in order to prioritise the utilisation of existing building fabric. The Oxford Street Commune is an example of a communal living structure; this acts to both reduce energy consumption and increase social interaction, and thus quality of life for residents. The work displayed takes inspiration from Half-Earth Socialist principles (authored by Drew Pendergrass and Troy Vettese).
