WILDSWIMMING HAVEN

by Christian Felipe Thunich

"Wildswimming Haven" is a facility within Epping Forest, offering a unique opportunity for the public to enjoy a pool while enjoying breathtaking views of the forest and the London skyline. The facility is designed as a timber structure, situated partially inside the Connaught Pond. At its core, the structure houses a captivating pool, inviting visitors to indulge in the joys of wild swimming. A key feature of this visionary concept lies in the building's façade, designed to serve as a water cleansing system. Both the pool and the pond are utilized for wild swimming, fostering a harmonious coexistence between humans and nature. Within dedicated research rooms, scientists have the opportunity to assess the water quality, while visitors can engage with informative displays about the innovative filtration systems employed. To enhance the visitor experience, a thoughtfully positioned staircase has been incorporated between the water filtering façade and the main timber structure. This strategic arrangement allows visitors to closely observe the intricate filtration techniques in action, fostering a deeper appreciation for the facility's commitment to sustainable practices. Beyond its aesthetic appeal, the building's true impact lies in the creation of a self-sustaining water cycle that not only attracts people to the site, but also nurtures a flourishing ecosystem, attracting diverse wildlife. This structure not only serves as an immersive experience for visitors but also acts as a catalyst for environmental regeneration within the forest, as it actively contributes to improving the conditions of the surrounding ecosystem. "Wildswimming Haven" seamlessly blends recreation, education, and ecological conservation into a singular destination, where individuals can connect with nature, while leaving a positive impact on the environment.
