MUSIC PALACE

by Darya Prokopets

Inpired by “Palaces for all” concept that emerged in Kazakhstan as a result of anti-bourgeoise ideas of Soviet colonisers and philosophy of nomads to whom “palaces for all” were integral part of life and culture, “Music palace” is a place that enables children in Limehouse to attend free of charge music classes. The concept of “palaces for all” opens the creative space up to everyone who is willing to participate, independent of nationality, ethnicity and economic backgrouund through providing musical instrument alongside other means necessary for learning and practice as well as simply enjoying music performances. To emphasise the connection between human, nature and music the building itself serves as a music instrument. Wind pipes catch the wind and surve as a function of organ, metalic surfucaces interact with the rain collaborating with musicians. The proposal consists of the music circular hall, teaching wing, rehearsal and dressing rooms, a courtyard for enjoying open air performances on the ground floor, production rooms and a rectangular music hall below the waterline.
