PERCEPTION : INTERPRET A SPACE THROUGH YOUR SENSES

by Jayni Pindoria

Perception is a carefully curated project which has been designed for the visually impaired community allowing them to develop key life skills. The space will promote healthy living with the use of culinary workshops and experiences, encourage independence and boost their confidence, and bring awareness of blindness to the community. Perception is a publicly funded project that welcomes people of all ages and abilities. A celebrated characteristic of Perception is the different means of wayfinding techniques existing across both floors. The custom Central Point, handrails and textures have been designed to enable all visitors to understand the space equally requiring users to navigate their way around by touch. Perception intends to exhibit inclusivity through its programme, therefore creating a comforting atmosphere and initiating the visually impaired community to socialise and become a part of the wider community.
