Developed by nature for nature. This project takes back the existing port hard-scapes of historic Antwerp and reintroduces vital wetlands to the bank of the Sheldt River. In doing so, it provides a headquarters for Estuary research and rehabilitation efforts whilst educating the public on the importance of wetland preservation. Based on the historic port site located in the Kattendijkdok, the project makes use of the existing barrel vault structure to represent nature taking back its rightful place within the city. It further displays the scale to which preservation measures have been taken to protect the local species within the estuary.
