NODE

by Avleen Hunjan

Node is a part of a stem from which one or more leaves emerge. I have chosen Node as my project title and concept as it holds a strong narrative. The stem represents the community in Dalston and the node represents the change and the future in Dalston. The node in this scenario is the florist’s studio where the botanical garden for the community is the new leaf that emerges from the node. This leaf then grows and becomes a stem, therefore becoming a part of the community in Dalston. Growing and working with the community will be achieved by the botanical garden exhibition that is held in the summer, as well as workshops on flower arrangements and other crafts throughout the year. The botanical garden will be maintained by children from local schools in Dalston, to help them learn and understand the importance of nature in an urban environment. The year round workshops will closely work with charities such as Women’s Aid where these workshops will uplift and support the futures of women and girls who have experienced abuse and violence.
