BRIDGE NO.1

by Finola Simpson

Bridge No.1 is a prototype for a future urban settlement in the river Thames from Limehouse to Rotherhithe. It is, as a concept, both a direct response to the realities of predicted London flooding in the year 2050 caused by the climate crisis and the increasingly individualistic nature we live in the city. With Reference to the original London Bridge, an inhabited crossing over the river Thames Bridge no.1 will rehouse communities displaced by future flooding and the ongoing cost of living crisis, aiming to offer alternative urban settlements for new nomads by providing hybrid programmes and unspecified spaces to dwell, work, create, play and learn. The proposal promotes the collection, renovation and recycling of materials and artefacts - a collective living museum and repository of humanity.
