DOCKLANDS BIO-WASTE PROCESSING PLANT

by Edoardo Ripamonti

The first semester prototype intends to develop an architectural device capable of acting as a network by harnessing wind through sails to move along the on-site DLR elevated rail line. The proposal's goal is to position itself at critical locations where dust, sand, and other thin construction waste materials are carried by the wind, collect and process them into fertile soil by mixing them with other readily available on-site components such as water and clay, and clean the air at the same time. The second semester project is set within the same site but projected in the future, when the Foster Masterplan, a new development currently under construction, will be completed. It attempts to improve the identified future issues, notably those linked to the future of waste, energy production, the climate crisis, and the social scenario. The Proposal consists of an Anaerobic Digestion Biowaste Plant paired with a number of spaces to benefit and educate the local (old and new) community on the importance and potential of effective waste management and reuse.
