A proposal for a new scheme to provide adequate, dignified and efficient processing and housing facilities to small boat arrivals along the coast of Kent. The current processing centre at Manston is severely overcapacity and lacking basic facilities such as adequate toilets, showers and beds for the thousands that are placed there for far longer than the centre is designed for. My proposal provides a dignified, comfortable living space, where asylum seekers are placed in exchange for their contribution to Wantsumville through jobs in the related projects and industries. Neighbouring projects will also provide food and clothing donations to the residents in return. As asylum claimants are not currently allowed to work or earn whilst waiting for a decision on them being granted refugee status, this project allows them to abide by that whilst also providing them with a purpose and restorative community centred environment focused on their recovery, wellbeing and integration whilst they reside within the ‘Seeking Settlement’ housing scheme.
