FUSING TWO WORLDS

"Fusing Two Worlds" is an ambitious ecological restoration project in Epping Forest that aims to blur the line between built and natural environments. Inspired by the half-earth conservation movement, it advocates for large protected areas and sustainable resource management to preserve global biodiversity. The project utilizes a former tennis club site and transforms it into an ontopolitical building, serving as a platform for political discussions and ecological research. It evolves over time, becoming a habitat for native flora and fauna, seamlessly integrating into the landscape. The building's main objective is to remediate the site by breaking down the concrete sublayer and promoting regrowth of native plants, restoring the local ecology. Recycled and upcycled timber elements are incorporated, supporting vertical plant growth and providing habitats, while also challenging the timber industry and promoting sustainability. At the end of its lifecycle, the building materials are returned to the forest, nurturing on-site nutrient cycles. Overall, "Fusing Two Worlds" fosters harmony between the built and natural world, sparking conversations about environmental decline.
