THE HIGH-RISE CANOPY: ECOTECTURAL OASIS OF BIODIVERSITY

The proposal is an innovative educational institution for disenchanted youths, offering immersive learning in horticulture and agriculture. Students actively participate in on-site landscaping and community engagement, empowering them with skills for other agricultural projects. Several grid systems are seamlessly incorporated to accommodate structure and growing patterns, illustrating the organic growth of the ‘canopy’ rather than a mere imposition on the site. Rather than resisting nature, the design embraces a porous approach that harmoniously integrates the unpredictable and dynamic forces at play, pushing boundaries and celebrating the outcomes. The completion of the building marks the start of a long collaborative process where the plants will eventually consume the architecture, metamorphosing into a captivating large-scale garden. The key spaces that redefine traditional learning environments include an atrium, research lab, auditorium, and outdoor learning area. All the suspended Auxin Auditorium elevations feature hanging plants for an immersive experience. The design provides educational value to the local communities alongside the tranquillity of green spaces. This inspiring prototype intends for similar types of gardens to be made available.
