SOCIAL SCALAM: THE MODIFICATION + CONSERVATION OF THE HUMAN RACE

by Alcina Lo

Scalam: A genetically modified arachnid-like human who eats air pollution. Native to Palermo. Set in the year, 3000AD, the Social Scalam project is an allegory exploring class hierarchy in society and the responsibility of saving the environment. The first part of the project sets the scene by exploring the modification and exploitation of the Scalam as part of an exploited class. The second part proposes a museum (The Human Taxidermy Museum) and deals with the Scalam gaining the same rights as the unmodified humans, using educational propaganda to consolidate their status as the superior genetic strain.
