(IN)-HABIT. SELF-SUFFICIENT LIVING PODS

by Azzam Hakim

Urban dwellers are ever more dependent on sophisticated supply chains of food, water, sewage, and power. The number of people who are vulnerable is growing rapidly. Over half of all human beings on earth lives in cites, almost 4.5 billion people. Many of these cites are located by the ocean, in tornado- prone areas, near faults, or the base of volcanos. Not to mention the danger of man-made disasters such as wars and global warming. And we need to accept that the timing of a disaster’s occurrence in unambiguously random-we may never be able to anticipate the when of one of these tragic disasters, and we must be prepared. The concept of the project is driven towards a useful critical ambition, as it investigates being completely self-sufficient with the consideration of sustainability. A well-researched analyses were invested to combine all the different elements to meet the human being essential needs. By combining futuristic technology to erect the 3d-printed living pods and make them function, and past methods to grow and cultivate algae, the project is therefore pushing the boundaries of the norm into a futuristic post-apocalyptic case scenario which can be implemented even now.
