The architecture project ‘Together We Grow’ aims to challenge the existing homelessness rehabilitation ideology by integrating nature and coliving. The project uses a combination of sustainable materials/design strategies, specialised therapy techniques with the vision of bringing homeless residents back to stability, Taking inspiration from biophilic design, the project is entrapped by various roof gardens; each with varying levels of accessibility and purpose; these gardens further facilitate social engagement. Additionally, each living unit is fitted with private gardens in which residents grow plants in order to complement their rehabilitation (aka. Horticulture). The project is located in Liverpool Street 1-2 Broadgate. Being a construction site, a large pit (approximately 15 metres) has been built to accommodate the ongoing development; and we were tasked with using this space. As such, the project is arranged in a fashion in which three levels of engagement are established. Above ground level is where the homeless residents will live in a co-living arrangement. At ground level is where the majority of traffic is found, with a community led shopping arcade and garden present. Finally, below ground level are spaces that place an emphasis on community engagement (e.g. auditoriums/galleries).
