H.A.D A.N.U.F

by Luke La Thangue

In the not too distant future, a sentient AI has been unknowingly developed, designated H.A.D by the A.N.U.F corporation, with hopes to utilise nanotechnology to create new nanomaterials with applications in construction, biomedical science and technology. Through the use of this AI as a tool to control the machines at a microscopic level, the company seeks to create proprietary products to sell worldwide. Upon creation of A.N.U.F’s flagship development, H.A.D, the company expands its operations, and new headquarters, to Palermo. Here their laboratory/public gallery space is designed, built and constructed by the AI itself, while operating the facility from a central server room inside. H.A.D’s curiosity as a newly sentient being becomes insatiable, as it learns at an alarming rate, consuming all knowledge and data until eventually losing interest in serving the company as a delegation robot, and instead choosing its own nefarious agenda. The story of H.A.D A.N.U.F is a tale of a technological Icarus which could present itself in the coming years, where humanities exponential advancements in technology could eventually cause its downfall.
