The Bromley-by-Bow study area is located to the east of London, along the river Lea. The area has many local vulnerabilities including deprivation and inequality, high reports of poor public health, poor tree coverage and lack of open green space, and many physical barriers. Interventions which address these issues, mitigate current climate change issues, and help to prevent further environmental deterioration are needed in this area. This holistic approach addresses connectivity, health inequality, biodiversity, and the urban heat island effect, with aims to encourage collaboration between multiple local stakeholders, making streets people friendly, and supporting the development of green infrastructure networks. Roads will be altered to support positive pedestrian experiences, re-allocating space to pedestrians, creating green corridors, and connecting east to west with An old gasworks site will be transformed into a beautiful park, the listed structures remaining, and each with a specific use, including a market, exercise facilities, and adventure park, and mindfulness garden among others. It will also give some much-needed open green space for both active and passive use. These interventions will give locals pleasant streets to use for active modes of travel, help mitigate pollution and the urban heat island, and open opportunities through connection.
