DEPTFORD CREEK

by Sidrit Selmani

The Deptford Creek project focus on designing an airtight commercial building incorporating a community fridge and a food bank. By implementing advanced construction techniques, insulation, and state-of-the-art ventilation systems, the building will minimize air leakage and reduce energy consumption. Energy-efficient windows and doors will further enhance thermal performance. The inclusion of a community fridge will create a central hub for sharing excess food, promoting sustainability and reducing food waste while allowing residents and businesses to access fresh, nutritious food. Additionally, a dedicated space within the building will house a food bank, collaborating with local suppliers to collect and distribute surplus food, alongside providing educational programs and resources to promote food literacy. The design will also incorporate communal spaces, such as a rooftop garden, study and work spaces, social interaction, and a meeting room. This holistic approach integrates energy efficiency, food sustainability, and community empowerment, making the commercial building a beacon of sustainability, promoting well-being, and addressing the needs of the Deptford community.
