SUBURBIA.TEST

by Raoul Tomaselli

Suburbia.test is a self sufficient masterplan redevelopment that aims to tackle the forthcoming rise of the sea level due to global warming. Following the vertical exploration of a self sufficient system in semester 1 I translated my focus onto the horizontal plan. I will resolve the issue of the imminent natural consequences through a series of strategies aiming for the total independence of the suburbia. As the tide rises the groundfloor will be completely submerged as happened in 1953 or worse. My proposal is to keep the foundation and the load bearing structure and build above with the leftover material from the Island (i.e. Oil Refinery, Trailer suburbia and the actual ground floor of the dwellings). This will translate in a co-living community with their own ways to harvest and filter water, grow and create food, generate electricity, self govern the town and their unique transportation methods.
