ALICE IN WONDERLAND

by Ann-Sophie Frosch

My maker creates big blocks out of old plastic rubbish. Those blocks can be used for different purposes. One block could be used as a coffee table. A dozen blocks could be put together and used as a stage or a pop-up shop. The blocks are versatile in its use. With the different ways of using them the scale changes. Those changes in use and therefore in scale that my makers product focuses on led me to experiment with scale and its effects. We expect objects to be a certain size when in comparison to others. A mouse is tiny in comparison to an elephant. My concept explores the effect scale has on a space. That kind of idea has similarities with the story of “Alice in Wonderland “. Alice falls into a world full of wonders as everything is different in its dimensions.
