La Discarica Sociale aims to bring people into the neglected Piazza Independenza - a site recently acquired by notorious ghost ‘The cloud’. Known for Meddling with firms that aren't behaving sustainably, marking empty, abandoned sites, and collecting waste materials; the cloud aims to expose and educate, fashioning the construction industry to take net zero seriously, and teach the importance of salvaged materials. La Discarica Sociale reinvents the large green space, respecting the history of the Piazza by designing radially around the memorial obelisk, as well as adopting ‘The cloud’s’ legacy of waste and construction fixation through a recycling collection system. Users can drop off their sorted waste and watch it travel across the Piazza to a workshop, via the above head moving track system. The scheme intends to be a social space, with a workshop designed to teach of upcycling the collected materials, amphitheatre style large seating for casual meeting, a central stage for events, and adaptable pavilions for local recreation - encouraging people to come to the La Discarica Sociale for more than just to drop off their waste. It is a scheme for sociability, conviviality, community engagement, primarily encouraging recycling by making waste visible and exciting.
