My design is a community center that’s functions include a play area, sleeping pods, café, meditation pod, and a greenhouse located on Southend central station. Its purpose is to make individuals feel more welcome when arriving at the station as it’s the main form of transport for tourists, making it the first part of the city visitors see. This will be done through green space focused regeneration which includes the target audience experiencing the landscape of Southend through more than just visual experience but through their feet. This is done through a moss floor. This intern reinforces an existing ecology present in the site for them to experience. Its target audience are residents, tourists, and commuters, wanting to create a social environment for people who already exist there whilst also providing an experience for newcomers. The way my semester one findings influenced this design was because I observed the themes of decay and preservation that led to my exploration of moss as it grows on the right conditions of decaying objects. This led me to take an existing cafe and target the experience it offers and elevate it using moss. This feeds into my current project by using the same ecology but targeting a different sensory experience.
