THE STRIDENTE - AN UP-CYCLING COMMUNITY PROJECT

by Imogen Power

This project was designed to be a community based project, with small groups coming together to make a big difference. It is designed by the community, for the community. The construction of the building was a big focus within this project as it uses a steel and recycled plastic stud frame with recycled fishing nets as the main element of the walls. The floor is a concrete slab with recycled plastic acting as an aggregate. The walls are formed finally with ghost netting retrospectively. The netting gives the walls a natural and abstract shape as represented in the following plans. The Stridente Collective functions as an Ocean Clean Up delivery centre, crafting centre and community Hub for the city of Palermo I have also explored how we can allow for a time after we exist and how our buildings can benefit the environment that we harmed so much whilst on this planet.
