Located in Crystal Palace Park and sitting along the main axis of the park, the Hybrid Court brings theatre and performance into the courtroom. By simulating the crime scene and using theatrical methods, the events of the crime can be accurately and truthfully portrayed to the Jury, allowing for a unanimous and accurate verdict. The proposal brings together the typical programme of the courthouse, whilst incorporating the additional facilities of a theatre, such as workshops and actor spaces. Theatrical sets of the crime scene will be made on site and transported into the courtroom ready for the trial to begin. From above, the Hybrid Court appears as a series of buildings spread along raised and symbolic landscaping, representing status, and ultimately providing views towards central London and the existing network of courts. Underground, the buildings are connected via a network of tunnels and connections wrapping around a large communal space, where the transparency between public and private, above and below ground are played with.
