ADAPTIVE GROUND

by Gregory Brookhouse

As Sea Levels continue to rise many villages in North Kent on the periphery of coastal flooding find themselves lacking the infrastructure to manage their coastlines from flooding and erosion. With these villages under threat, is there a more sustainable development model for North Kent which seeks to engage the community with the coastline infrastructure and new natural environment? The convention critiques the development of traditional coastline infrastructure and uses the local vernacular architecture style and landscape cues in an attempt to create a new coastline typology which adapts to the rising sea level. As the Headquarters for The Future Kent Coastline Commission, effort to seed the coastline, the project provides a robust sustainable alternative to aggressive coastline management.
