The catalyst for designing a re-imagined social housing scheme stemmed from semester one’s investigations on the relationship between the inhabitants of social housing and their exterior within both Clichy-Sous-Bois and Southwark. This project seeks to challenge the restrictions imposed upon the people living within traditional modernist housing blocks, in which are not designed to represent the residents and their vibrant identities. The scheme aims to break the stigma of social housing, of living in generic, lifeless and isolated flats or neighbourhoods which undermine social cohesion and prompt social segregation among the nation’s most vulnerable.
