Advertising is the new platform for social change in a world where attention is the most valuable asset. Since the invention of advertising, proponents of social change have referred to it as a tool used by corporations to force their agendas down the throats of ordinary people. Advertising is a pernicious practise that incites a spiritual war within society. However, advertising is more than just taking money from the poor and putting it in the pockets of the rich. It is a medium through which visionary creative minds can broadcast their ideas to people from all levels of society. A well-crafted advert can capture the attention of its target audience in order to effect the desired change. We’ve all seen the gleaming billboards and over-the-top TV commercials that sell goods and services. However, it is important to recognise that responsible advertising can advocate for a progressive society by bringing to light sensitive issues such as climate change, human trafficking, racism, identity politics, gender inequality, and others. Spreading the truth about brands and the reality of how they use advertisement as a tool to sway in consumers will give people a choice to where they decide to put their money. The project’s aim is to transfer knowledge and to provoke dialogue. Especially in the current trend driven and profit driven socioeconomic system.
