RECIPE FOR RE-USE

by Marina Ioannou

‘Recipe for Re-use’ is a radical adaptation of a fish supplies unit, from an existing light-industrial unit to a proposed fish market and restaurant with a terrace. The project questions the densification of inner-city London as a cure for urban problems. As one of the last areas of food distribution units in central London, offering rewilding and harvest festivals, Cedar Way Industrial Estate is proposed to be demolished for a very high-density residential development by Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios working for Camden council, and Karakeusevic Carson working on the neighbourhood plan. Using random pieces improvised from rubbish chance operations to create a body of fragments made from recycled materials, the project demonstrates the amazing possibilities of an overlooked back-land in Camden. The master plan aims to demonstrate that it is possible to use wonderful waste-generated pieces to generate a beautiful, attractive proposal that offers great local amenities using minimal resources and with as minimal change to the existing building and what’s already there, as possible.
