SCULPTOR'S SANCTUARY

by Anisa Mini

The given brief was to create a space for a sculptor. The building had to include a project space, exhibition area, and as well as living areas for the sculptor’s private life. Considering my sculptor has 3 children, I integrated her living room along with her studio space so that she could easily keep an eye on them. Light is essential for sculptors, but considering my artist paints and does sculptures, I needed to incorporate a mix of both light qualities. Having light perforations on the facade of the building would allow for this. The glass screens behind the white brick facade open up, to let air in and as well get rid of any fumes from materials used. There is a glass screen between the studio and exhibition space because my sculptor wants to have transparency between her final product and the process of getting to the final piece.
