THE PIRATE COPY CASTLE AND GOLDEN TIME

by Aidan McMillan

An extension for the Pirate Castle, a youth centre only metres away from the site on Gibley's Yard. The bothy is intended for performance artists, allowing them to collaborate through transferring set pieces and setting up public shows using mobile architecture. A small changing area is partitioned with a track run curtain, leaving a common area for warming up. The roof provides set blocks and a detachable slide. The design for 'Golden Time' stems from putting controlled risk in the eyes of young children of the future.. Children will be responsible for their own safety by having freedom to learn through forest schooling. Giving students an introduction to the importance of sustainability through the use of algae specifically, glass tanks are used as large washing machines by the staff washing the students' clothes post school, wherby they then experience 'golden time' through playing amongst the base.
