THE ACTIVATING HOSPITAL

by Kin Leung

The Activating Hospital explores the opportunities for reshaping the normative atmosphere and conventional architectural tension in the architecture, offering a new experience in the high-stress environment through intentional design strategies and potentially inspire emotion and spiritual wellness. To generate new perception for the trapped medical environment, this proposal redefines the narrow definition of hospitals from healing space to place for granting hope.
By operating the effect of uplifting, a central deformed atrium together with various layers of illusion and the formation of social space by rooms and stairs emphasises the contrast from the ordinary exterior world and treatment space, create an experience to be divorced from reality and let patients and public to immerse with.
Variety formation of social spaces is interconnected vertically throughout the uplifted atrium, encourages patients, caregivers, and the public to ‘’activate’’ and explore the space by walking in the social hub, reinforces the connection between patients, caregivers, and public.
