XPOSURE: GANGXIA YOUTH LEARNING CENTRE

by Renzhi Zeng

The project is located next to Gangxia Urban Village, a city block sitting inbetween the developed central business area and developing area around. To facilitate learning opportunities for the local migrant community, the proposal performs as a platform of sharing information rather than a storage space of resources like conventional library. This ideology is achieved by architectural effect of exposure created through cuts and clashes between form and formation. As the cascading formation exposes itself at cuts facing towards specific area in the city, the learning behaviour and related opportunities are broadcast to its urban environment. Externally, this mechanism directs the potentially users to locate themselves in different educational pathways. Internally, it allows learning experience to be enriched by encouraging movements on the boundary of inside and outside through the cuts and clash moments.
