THE INTERNET EXCHANGE OF PORTHCURNO

by Hayley Garnham

The Internet Exchange of Porthcurno will encourage the live access and consumption of information whilst also promoting the engagement of this historical site. The programme will focus on the dissemination, classification and protection of this ever-growing source of data; whilst giving the invisible nature of the internet a physical structure. My chosen site is the UK’s main connection point to the rest of the world, Porthcurno Cornwall. The remote beach became internationally famous as the British termination of early submarine communication cables in the 1870s and four fibre-optic cables come ashore here today. This project will celebrate the evolution of communication and the essential material framework that forms our digital world.
