A CENTRE FOR SUSTAINABLE FASHION

by Iman Dagnoko

The project is located on the main high street of Bethnal Green road, a very busy yet open and accessible area in the East End of London. My design studio project brief articulates itself around the fast-fashion issue along with the possibilities of introducing a new way of making ‘sustainable fashion’ through one guild member of the Great Twelve Livery Company, the Merchant Tailors. They consisted in an association of Tailors who were responsible of the garment trade (14th Century). Very successful, they’ve gone into a decline around the first half of the 19th Century that triggered the end of their activities. They are no longer playing the character they were at the time and act as a charity providing education and healthcare in the UK. The brief is presented through a 3 storeys, public and private building shaped by 4 fundamental programs: Gallery, Shop, Workshop & Guild Accommodation.
