UGO RONDINONE'S HOME AND STUDIO

by Tilda Blomqvist

The core concept of my design proposal is based on the two relevant circumstances regarding my sculptor and my site. My choice of artist, Ugo Rondinone, is very private as a person. Secondly, considering that the location of his house has a great history of textile weaving, I have chosen to create the facade in woven metal mesh, directly reflecting a piece of fabric, while at the same time block out most of the view from the outside allowing privacy but still provide a natural light. The building is divided into two sections, where the Western part of four floors is his private space, and the Eastern part on two floors with double ceiling heights, holds the exhibition areas. The first studio is located on top of the Western section for smaller work and research, and the second one in the basement of the Eastern section, for larger projects.
