OPEN - SPACE FOR A T-SHIRT PRINTER

by Giorgia Bresciani

As screen printing consists in creating a visual effect by overlaying colours and textures, the building reflects this concept. Taking the idea from the screen printing meshes used to create the stencils, walls of the rooms consist of meshes, that from the exterior of the building result in a layering of different spaces and colours. The separate private units are enclosed in the big public area, creating a box-in-a-box effect. The main idea is to integrate small separate private spaces for everyday life into a bigger volume consisting of the workshop. The polycarbonate façade encloses both the open space workshop and the private rooms, like a protective skin, an envelope. It allows reciprocal exchange between the exterior and the interior. The public space is divided into a gallery, right after the entrance, and a screen printing workshop, further down.
