WEAVE THE CHANGE

by Emma Hafner

The fashion industry produces 12 million tonnes of waste in Europe alone. It's one of the biggest consumption markets and it's every growing. East London used to be a huge fashion and textile area, especially bethnal green which was famous the weaving industry. Now most of it has migrated to Hackney and other countries with cheaper labour costs. This is one of the reasons I chose my client for the circular economy. For the design proposal I have created a two story women’s activist, Sewing and weaving house in bethnal Green. My whole concept is based on a giant space loom, simple movements and rectilinear geometry where the design is in the details. The purpose of my building will be to facilitate this action and to provide a hub for this group so they have a meeting spot.
