FIRST YEAR ARCHITECTURAL PROJECT - ARTIST'S STUDIO.

by Ajvi Allmuca

For the artist’s studio project I focused on the personality and work of the artist I had chosen, Julie Mehretu. She needed huge spaces to work and exhibit her art as she worked on large scales and with a lot of people. I wanted as much natural light as possible to come in through every room of the building to reflect her open and energetic nature. For the outer decor I was inspired by the artist’s work itself. Mehretu uses layers and she often combines architectural details such as maps and famous buildings in the layers of her canvases. The decor is in fact taken by the Roman road map, where the building is located. As for the rest of the design I also applied the golden ratio rules as it is often found in famous art pieces and it would be fitting for an artist’s house.
