JAPANESE LANTERN DESIGNER’S RESIDENCE AND EXHIBITION GALLERY

by Izabela Dima

The company who makes the Noguchi designed Akari lanterns Ozeki & Co are setting up a small factory in Bethnal Green. Their motive for doing so is to collaborate with some western designers in order to come up with a new range of products. They will supply three skilled workers and invite a designer to work alongside them. The three workers will live in Pott Street, Bethnal Green and the designer would just visit. A sort of cultural exchange.

The building i am designing will be a place of the lantern designing and making and exhibition gallery for the public to access and view. The curved facade would reveal the beauty of the interior and the amazing designs of lanterns, it will also bring a natural source of lighting in the spaces. The design ‘separates’ the building in two cells of the living area and the workshop and exhibition.
